On Friday, September 8, 2023, a solemn away session of the 24th Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council was held in Halych on the 1125th anniversary of the first mention of the city. Before the start of work, all those present together prayed for Ukraine in the Church of the Nativity of Christ. Afterwards, a plenary meeting of the session of the regional council was held on Zamkova Gora in Halych.
Myroslav Voloshchuk, doctor of historical sciences, professor of the Department of World History, head of the Center for Medieval Studies, delivered a solemn report on the historical role and significance of Halych during the period of the Halych-Volyn state.
On the declaration of 2023 as the Year of Knyazhy Halych in Ivano-Frankivsk region and to commemorate the 1125th anniversary of the first mention of the city of Halych, commemorative medals “Halych-1125” were produced by order of the regional council. For a significant contribution to the research and popularization of the history of the period of the Halych-Volyn principality, perpetuation of history in works of art, selfless service to the territorial community, a significant personal contribution to the revival of the glory of Halych and promotion of its development, Oleksandr Sych, together with the head of the ODA/OVA Svitlana Onyshchuk, awarded the doctor of historical of Sciences, professor, dean of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology and Archeology of the Carpathians Mykola Kuhutyak and doctor of historical sciences, professor of the Department of World History Myroslav Voloshchuk.
