We continue the professional examination of history textbooks

On October 29, 2024, the leading specialist of the Institute of History, Ethnology and Archaeology of the Carpathians Bohdan Paska took part in a meeting of the expert commission on history of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The meeting was chaired by the head of the department of source studies and special historical disciplines of the Institute of Historical Education of the Mykhailo Dragomanov Ukrainian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Prof. Oleksandr Valentynovich Potylchak (chairman of the expert commission). The secretary was the senior researcher of the department of scientific and educational and methodological support of the content of general secondary education at the National Secondary School of the State Scientific Institution “Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education”, Candidate of Historical Sciences. During the meeting, 17 objects of approval were considered – 13 pilot projects of textbooks for the educational courses “History of Ukraine”, “World History”, “History: Ukraine and the World”, intended for 8th grade students. Bohdan Paska presented for the commission’s consideration an expert opinion and a certificate on the finalization of the pilot project of the second part of the manual for the educational course “History of Ukraine” for 8th grade, authored by O. Panarin, O. Okhrimenko, A. Makarevych and Yu. Topolnytska. The expert’s opinion was supported and approved by the expert commission. The commission proposed that the ministry grant the draft textbook the stamp “Approved for use in the educational process”. Because of the discussion, all pilot projects of textbooks proposed by the authors were recommended for approval. The model curriculum of the “Integrated Course of History and Civic Education” for grades 7–9, the curricula of the elective courses “Cultural and Historical Traditions of Ukrainian Everyday Life” for grades 10–11, “History and Cultural Heritage of the Jewish People” for grades 7–9, and the specialized course “Fundamentals of Scientific Research” for grades 8–9 also received favorable reviews from experts.
