Today, September 27, a round table was held in the reading room of the Scientific Library of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian bibliographer, teacher, literary critic, local historian, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor Volodymyr Polek (1924–1999).
The event, organized by the Department of Ukrainian Literature of the Faculty of Philology and the University’s Scientific Library, brought together students, postgraduates and teachers.
The Acting Rector of the University, Ihor Tsependa, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He emphasized the role of Ukrainian philology in the formation of the human capital of the individual.
“It is a good tradition for our University to honor the memory of its Teachers, who are the founders of educational areas and scientific schools. The figure of Volodymyr Polek is special because he belongs to those outstanding scientists who, with their great work, have formed many interesting areas. He has always popularized Ukrainian literature in Ukraine and beyond. He has never forgotten about his region. His painstaking and systematic work has allowed many scientists who are currently researching the history of the Carpathians to use his biography and works. Professor Polek is an exemplary researcher for many of our generations!” noted Ihor Tsependa.
The head of the Department of Ukrainian Literature, Professor Stepan Khorob, who presented to the participants the publication, opened the ceremony “Professor Volodymyr Polek: Creativity and Fate against the Background of the Era (Memoirs, Epistolary of Different Years, and Bibliographic Index).”
Roman Dzumedzei, director of the Scientific Library of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, spoke about the period of Professor V. Polek’s activity as the leading bibliographer of the Ivano-Frankivsk Pedagogical Institute library and the functioning of the V. T. Polek Named Fund.
During the round table, those present had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the exposition of materials from the professor’s personal archive and the book exhibition.
