This award is a symbol of scientific prestige, confirming the importance of work for the development of Ukraine and its international recognition.

The authors studied the key period of the formation of Ukrainian statehood from 1917 to 1923. Their work highlights the struggle for the unification of Ukrainian lands, the process of the accession of Galicia, Bukovina and Transcarpathia to the Ukrainian People’s Republic, as well as the nationwide scale of the liberation struggle of Ukrainians.

Special attention is paid to the experience of forming government bodies, domestic and foreign policy of that period. Biographies of key Ukrainian figures are presented, and a commemoration of the heroes of the liberation struggle in various regions of Ukraine is organized.

The scientists carried out extensive work on organizing archival materials, mapping historical processes, and studying the influence of geopolitics on the fate of Ukraine.

The four-volume encyclopedia «Western Ukrainian People’s Republic 1917–1923», which presents more than 3.2 thousand articles summarizing the experience of Ukrainian statehood, occupies a special place in the work.
