From today, it is official: Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University

Today, our university officially received a new name – Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. All legal procedures have been completed.

For us, this is not just a formality – it is a step into the future, which reflects our development, international ambitions and mission. We preserve our academic heritage, our traditions and strengths. At the same time, the new name is an impetus for further growth and new opportunities.

For us, the change is a strategy that supports:

– Expanding international cooperation. The university actively works with partners from the EU and the USA, and the name “Carpathian” will help us better identify ourselves on the international stage.

– Historical justice. The name “Prykarpattia” appeared during the Soviet period and erases the connection of the region with its historical center – Halych and the Galicia-Volyn state. We strive to restore identity and return historical meanings to the names.

– The mission of the university. Carpathian University is not only an educational institution, but also a scientific, cultural and economic city-forming center of the region.

This step corresponds to the European vector of Ukraine’s development, where clear communication and clarity of names are of key importance. After all, the word “Prykarpatsky” does not have a clear translation in English and other EU languages.

We remain faithful to our patron, Vasyl Stefanyk, and continue to bear his name proudly.

The new name of the university fixes our status quo as one of the leaders of education in Ukraine.

We train competitive specialists capable of working in Ukraine and abroad, provide innovative programs and modern laboratories, actively implement an interdisciplinary approach and modern educational methods.

Our students and graduates are ambitious, creative and professional leaders who continue the traditions of the university and shape the future of the region and the country.

We are already participants in over 50 EU programs; we are the initiators of the Collegium Karpaticum, which united 7 leading universities of the mountain region, with headquarters on Mount Pip Ivan in the International Scientific Center “Observatory”. In addition, we continue to grow.

The changes ensure that the name corresponds to the university status that it has acquired over the past 10 years.

We are proud that it was our student Olga Kovaliv who presented the new university logo to the public in April 2025.

It is unique, like our style: the peaks of the Carpathians, the center of science – the observatory on Pip Ivan, the Ukrainian ornament – all in one modern recognizable image.

Brand renewal is not only about visual changes and recognition, but also about a deeper understanding of identity and development!

So – Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University – a new name, new opportunities!
