The II (regional) stage of the All-Ukrainian competition-defense of scientific and research works of students-members of the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the conditions of the hardships of the Russian-Ukrainian war was held remotely in three stages. Structurally, the division of points for evaluating competitive works was as follows: correspondence evaluation of scientific and research works (maximum number of points – 20); poster defense (maximum number of points – 45); scientific conference (maximum number of points – 35).

During the poster defense (direct communication of the contestant with the competition commission (jury) in the form of questions and answers), the jury members checked the student’s knowledge of the topic chosen for the research, thereby checking his/her independence in carrying out the competitive research. Subsequently, after a short break, a scientific conference was held, during which the participants’ ability to present their project from the point of view of value, to highlight the most important, to communicate with other participants within the framework of academic interaction was tested.

Four people took part in the competition, representing different secondary education institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia. Two 10th graders and 2 9th graders took part in the competition.

It is necessary to single out a diverse mosaic of research topics on the history of Ukraine, which covered, in particular, aspects of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war (research on the “war of memories” in the occupied territories of Ukraine 2014–2024, the life and military path of the Hero of Ukraine Taras Senyuk), the study of the issues of the “Spring of Peoples” revolution in Eastern Galicia 1848–1849, as well as an analysis of the biography of a little-known figure of the plast and women’s movements of the first half of the 20th century in the Stanislaviv region, Daria Skochdopol.

During the defense of student competition works, the jury members provided valuable recommendations for students on the correct design of scientific works, classification of primary sources and literature, and during the discussion – skillful formulation of questions to their fellow student competitors. The meeting lasted four hours with a short break and ended with the determination of the winners, information about which can be found on the website of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional branch of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

All participants were urged to continue developing their talents at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University as the largest center for the study of the history of Ukraine and historical local history in Precarpathia, in particular at the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations.
