In the village of Krylos, during the All-Ukrainian Patriarchal Proscha to the 1125th anniversary of the first written mention of the city of Halych, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Svyatoslav Shevchuk presented the Patriarch Certificate on the occasion of the 1125th anniversary of the celebration of the founding of the city of Halych and granting the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krylos the title of Patriarchal Procathedral cathedral to the doctor of historical sciences, professor, dean of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology and Archeology of the Carpathians Mykola Kuhutyak.
The presentation of the Patriarchal letter to Mykola Vasyliovych was the crown of his publication of the book “Monasteries of Ancient Halych – Spiritual Talismans of the Ukrainian Nation” (Ivano-Frankivsk: Manuscript-Lviv, 2023). The monographic edition brought to the readers’ attention highlights the peculiarities of evangelization processes in the territory of Galician Carpathian region, reveals the problems of the formation and development of the monastic tradition of ancient Halych-Krylos of the 12th-18th centuries, the spiritual and civilizational mission of monasticism, its role in the system of the episcopal and metropolitan Galician cathedral. An attempt was made to investigate the monastic phenomenon of Kryloska Mountain, rock-cave abodes and monasteries in the immediate vicinity of ancient Halych. An important feature of the publication is the publication of documents on the history of Halych-Krylos monasticism. The publication is designed for historians, religious scholars, cultural experts, ethnologists, and anyone interested in the history and culture of ancient Halych.
