We remind you that the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions, according to which the degree of presentation of university activities in the Internet space is analyzed, which every six months provides independent, objective, free, open scientific information about the results of university activities with the whole world.

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Laboratory, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. The initial goal of the rating was to promote a scientific presence on the Internet, support Open Access initiatives to increase the transfer of scientific and cultural knowledge created by universities. To achieve this goal, publication of the ranking is one of the most powerful and successful tools for consolidating change in academia, increasing scholarly commitment, and developing much-needed long-term strategies.

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is not a ranking of university websites; it is a ranking of universities themselves. It uses both webmetric and bibliometric (research) metrics.

That is, the purpose of the rating is not to evaluate websites, their design or usability, popularity of their content according to the number of visits. Web indicators are considered through a correct, comprehensive, in-depth assessment of a university’s global performance, taking into account its activities and results, their significance and impact. Its main goal is to facilitate the creation of open access to the knowledge provided by the university.
