Celebration of the 175th anniversary of the birth of Volodymyr Shukhevych

Today, the rector of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University Ihor Tsependa together with the teaching staff, the dean of the faculty of tourism Volodymyr Velykochy, the director of the educational and scientific institute of arts Volodymyr Fedorak, the associate professor of the Department of History of Ukraine and methods of teaching history Andriy Korolko, the associate professor of the Department of Ethnology and Archeology Petro Kostyuchok, adviser from investment policy Oleg Mysyk visited the village of Tyshkivtsi of the Horodenka community. They have celebrated the 175th anniversary of the birth of the Ukrainian ethnographer, Pokutian, singer of the Hutsul region Volodymyr Shukhevych and the 117th anniversary of the birthday of the commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) Roman Shukhevych (Taras Chuprynka).

Representatives of local authorities, public figures, scientists and community residents attended the event. In particular, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Olga Matvienko, General Director of the Kobrynsky National Museum of Folk Art of Hutsul Region and Pokuttya Yaroslav Tkachuk, President of the Ivano-Frankivsk Chamber of Commerce Andriy Levkovych. They honored the memory of Volodymyr and Roman Shukhevych by laying flowers at the monument and observing a moment of silence. The speeches of the speakers emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and studying the heritage of prominent Ukrainians.

Rector of the University Ihor Tsependa opened the event, talking about the important role of the Shukhevych family in the formation of Ukrainian national identity and the struggle for independence. He emphasized that Volodymyr Shukhevych was an outstanding ethnographer who preserved the rich cultural heritage of the Hutsul region for future generations, and his grandson Roman Shukhevych became a symbol of the national liberation struggle.

Their figures are a symbol of the struggle for Ukraine’s independence, and the great legacy remains extremely important for modern Ukraine. Their contributions to the cause of national self-identification and liberation struggle continue to inspire new generations of Ukrainians on the way to freedom and independence.

The significance of this event goes beyond the local level, because such individuals are a symbol of the national movement, the struggle for freedom and independence of Ukraine. They are an example and inspire young people to take an active civic position and love for their Motherland.
