On July 24, in the Oleksa Dovbush Historical Memorial Museum (Ivano-Frankivsk), on the occasion of the birthday of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Volodymyr Vasyliovych Hrabovetsky was honored. His students, colleagues, acquaintances, admirers of the scientist’s achievements in the field of Ukrainian history and local history took part in the event organized by the museum staff with the participation of teachers of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations.
Present were the head of the Department of History of Ukraine and methods of teaching history, Professor I. Raikivskyi, associate professors O. Yegreshiy. and S. Kobuta, shared their memories of Volodymyr Vasylyovych as a person, scientist and public figure, noted his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian historical science in the Middle Ages and modern times, which must be evaluated in the historical context of the existence of the party-totalitarian regime in Ukraine in the 20th century. Despite the restrictions and prohibitions regarding Ukrainianness at the time, the researcher found various opportunities for the spread of Ukrainian national self-consciousness, the study of the history of Ukraine itself, and not the Communist Party-ideological topics that were very common at that time, distorting or silencing historical processes in every way. The participants emphasized the well-known theme that “a person is alive as long as they talk about him.” Therefore, it is necessary to honor the creative work and figure of Volodymyr Vasyliovych Hrabovetskyi. In particular, as was repeatedly emphasized by those present, the time has come to name one of the streets of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, where the scientist, a native of our region, an honorary citizen of the city, lived from 1975 until his last days, call him by name.
