Carpathian Star Trek: science, education, popularization

Acting Rector of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ihor Tsependa, visited the Vihorlatsky Astronomical Observatory in Kolonytsky Sedl (Slovakia). He was introduced to the activities of the astronomical scientific and educational center by its founder and long-time director, and currently head of the Carpathian Star Path project, Igor Kudzey.

The purpose of the Acting Rector’s visit was to familiarize himself with the experience of developing this center and to reach an agreement on further cooperation between the Vyhorlaks Astronomical Observatory and the International Scientific Center “Observatory” of the Precarpathian and Warsaw Universities.

Scientific astronomical observations here began in 2006, when a 1-meter telescope was installed. It is currently one of the largest telescopes in Slovakia. Currently, there are seven telescopes operating on Kolonytsky Sedl for science and a large number of various smaller telescopes for astrotourism.

During the meeting of Acting Rector Igor Tsependa with the head of the Carpathian Star Path project Igor Kudzey, an agreement was reached between the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the Vykhorlat Astronomical Observatory on concluding a cooperation agreement.

Slovak colleagues are interested and ready to share their experience with our International Scientific Center “Observatory” on Mount Pip Ivan. Also in the plans are joint scientific astronomical, ecological and meteorological research in the near future.
