Graduates of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations among the winners of a prestigious international competition

On October 31, 2024, the Polish Institute in Kyiv announced the results of the Jerzy Giedroyc Competition, which recognizes the best bachelor’s, masters and doctoral (thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy) works dedicated to Polish topics, as well as Ukrainian-Polish relations. Among the winners of the competition are graduates of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University Oksana Volovodiuk and Andriy Savchuk.

Oksana Volovodiuk with her bachelor’s thesis “Masculinity and Heroism in the Polish Units of the Grand Army of Emperor Napoleon: Ideas and Practices (1806–1814)” was awarded 1st place in the “Bachelor’s Thesis” nomination.

Oksana Volovodiuk is this year’s graduate of the educational program 032 “History and Archaeology” of the Bachelor’s degree program. Her thesis for the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education was completed at the Department of World History under the scientific supervision of the head of the department, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Oleg Zhernokleev. The student’s success was facilitated by her research and international activity. While still a 4th-year student, Oksana Volovodiuk took part in academic mobility under the ERASMUS+ program and from September 2023 to February 2024 studied at the University of Gdańsk (Gdańsk, Republic of Poland). In the spring of 2024, she received a grant to write a project for Invisible University for Ukraine (IUFU), 2024.

Oksana is the author of a number of scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences. After graduating from the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, she continues her studies in the master’s program in history at the Central European University in Vienna (Austria).
