A master’s student conducted an in-depth conversation for students in grades 10–11, dedicated to introducing them to the profession of a history teacher. The main objectives of the event were to promote a conscious choice by students for further study in the specialty “Secondary Education (History)” at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, to familiarize students with the requirements of the profession, and to motivate them to pursue higher education.
At the beginning of the meeting, the students were presented with general information about the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations, the specialty “Secondary Education (History)”. It was emphasized that the profession of a history teacher requires a wide range of knowledge in historical disciplines, communication skills, the ability to work with information and interest students in studying the past. The students were explained that this specialty provides an opportunity to work not only in general secondary education institutions, but also in out-of-school education institutions and in pre-higher education institutions, as well as for the implementation of important cultural and educational projects.
One of the important aspects of the discussion was the role of a history teacher in shaping the personality of students, their worldview and civic position. It was emphasized that a historian performs not only an educational, but also an educational function, helping young people to better understand historical processes and form critical thinking. The students were interested in learning how teaching history helps to cultivate respect for cultural heritage and understanding of world processes in the younger generation.
Thanks to the career guidance work carried out, students in grades 10–11 received a detailed understanding of the specialty “Secondary Education (History)”. Many of them expressed interest in continuing their studies in this specialty, noting the importance of the history teacher profession for the formation of an educated society. In summary, the students were able to understand the specifics of the profession, and learned about opportunities for career growth and further education.
