On May 14, 2025, a solemn event took place at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian (Carpathian) National University – “Students for Students-2040: a Tree and a Time Capsule”. The event took place near a round flowerbed and brought together students, teachers, administration, journalists, honored guests and future entrants – winners of the educational hackathon.
The symbolic heart of the event was the planting of a Ginkgo tree – an ancient tree that personifies eternity, wisdom and hope. It was planted by representatives of the current generation of students, together with those who will soon join the academic community. This gesture unites generations and emphasizes the continuity of the university tradition.
A special moment was the laying of the time capsule “University of the Future”, which is planned to be opened in 2040. It contains letters, mini-projects, and symbols of the present, prepared by students of various faculties: from historians to physicists, from psychologists to philologists. The capsule was laid under a memorial stone with a QR code – by which you can read the legend and learn more about the initiative.
Acting Rector of the University Ihor Tsependa noted the importance of this event as a symbolic bridge between generations. He emphasized that it is such initiatives that form the living memory of the university, develop a sense of belonging to the academic community and allow students to feel like a part of the great history that is happening right now.
This event became not only part of the celebrations of the 85th anniversary of the university, but also an emotional and inspiring reminder of the power of academic unity, continuity and dreams that grow through the years.
At the end, everyone had the opportunity to take a photo, a selfie and receive a symbolic commemorative sign – as confirmation that today’s participants have become part of a great history. Together, we not only remember the past – we confidently grow into the future.
