Faculty teachers participated in the organization of an international scientific conference at the University of Lodz

On June 5–6, 2025, the University of Lodz hosted the tenth conference series “Faces of War”, which this time was dedicated to the topic “War and Memory”. One of the co-organizers of the event was the Center for Medieval Studies of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. The history of cooperation between the Universities of Lodz and Precarpathian in the context of organizing relevant meetings dates back to 2021. More than 200 experienced and young scholars from 14 countries around the world (Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Great Britain, Latvia, Ireland, as well as Kyrgyzstan, Israel, Canada and Australia) applied for the conference.

From the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the scientific forum was attended by lecturers from the Department of World History – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Center for Medieval Studies Myroslav Voloshchuk (topic of the speech: “The “Kingdom of Rus” after the Wars for the Inheritance of the Romanovych Dynasty 1340–1387”) and Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Liliya Shcherbin (topic of the speech: “Anthropology of Memory of the Great War in the Carpathian Region in the Interwar Period”, together with Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ethnology and Archaeology Petro Kostyuchko), as well as Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Ethnology and Archaeology Oksana Drohobytska (topic of the speech: “In the Echo of Memories: Peculiarities of the Formation of the Armed Structures of the National Resistance Movement in Galicia in the Middle and Second Half of 1943 in the Memoirs of Contemporaries”).

The speeches of the participants of the scientific forum were divided into 31 thematic sections (20 on the first day and 11 on the second). Ukrainian has traditionally been one of the official languages of the conference. The next event in the series is scheduled for June 11–12, 2026. It will be held under the thematic title “Borders”.
