“The best local history book” is a regional award established in 2012 by the Ivano-Frankivsk regional organization of the National Union of Local History of Ukraine (chairman – Mykhailo Kosylo). Annually, according to the conditions of the regional award, printed research in the field of local history is determined by thematic nominations.

During a brutal military confrontation, it is extremely important to talk about the printed word, about culture, which are key indicators of the self-identity of Ukrainians. Today we exist because, despite the long years of oppression and statelessness, there were books – the bearers of values we defend today with weapons in our hands.

From the book funds of the Ivan Franko Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, an extensive exhibition of over 100 editions published in 2023 and the jury of the regional competition “The Best Book of Carpathians” chose the most iconic books from them by thematic nominations.

Among the laureates of this year’s competition is the director of the Institute of History, Ethnology and Archeology of the Carpathians, Mykola Kuhutyak. Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ethnology and Archeology, Mykola Kuhutyak became the laureate of the “Best Local History Book 2023” competition in the “Historical and Church Local History” nomination for the book “Monasteries of Ancient Halych – Spiritual Talismans of the Ukrainian Nation”.
