On October 12, 2023, the book of the Dean of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology and Archeology of the Carpathians, Professor Mykola Kuhutyak, “Monasteries of Ancient Halych – Spiritual Talismans of the Ukrainian Nation” was presented at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. His Eminence bishops, scientists, teachers, employees, students and graduate students of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, representatives of authorities and local self-government bodies took part in the presentation.
The rector of the university, Ihor Tsependa, emphasized the fact that at our university, professor Mykola Kuhutyak has already formed a certain direction of historical research from the past of our church. The 3-volume edition “The Great Hermitage in the Carpathians”, the 2-volume work “Hoshiv Monastery of the Virgin on Yasna Gora in the Carpathians”, other editions were published.
The book was published with the assistance of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council as part of the regional comprehensive program “Commemoration of the 1125th anniversary of the first mention of the city of Halych” for 2022-2023.
In his speech, the head of the regional council, Oleksandr Sych, emphasized the long-term cooperation of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional council with historians-scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. The regional budget financed this edition and the already mentioned books on the history of the region’s monasteries, the 4-volume edition “Western Ukrainian People’s Republic. Encyclopedia” and other works. Oleksandr Maksymovych sincerely thanked the historians for their selfless work for the good of Ukraine. At the end of his speech, he awarded Professor Bohdan Tomenchuk with a commemorative medal for the 1125th anniversary of the first written mention of princely Halych.
Metropolitan of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Ioasaf Vasylykiv congratulated the participants of the meeting, recalled the long history of scientific cooperation with Mykola Kuhutyak, tried to summarize it, emphasized the special significance of the 1125th anniversary of Prince Halych and called on the scientists of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University not to rest on their laurels and continue research.
