Participation of teachers and students of PNU in the 14th Bukovina international historical and local history conference

On October 27–28, 2023, PNU teachers and students took part in the 14th Bukovina International Historical and Local History Conference, which was held at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in a mixed offline-online mode. The organizers of the international scientific forum were the Department of History of Ukraine of the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, the Research Center of Bukovina Studies, and the Chernivtsi Regional Branch of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine.

At the conference, 84 reports and messages of participants from the cities of Graz (Austria), Warsaw, Zelenohora (Republic of Poland), Chisinau (Moldova), Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Lutsk, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi, Kam Yanets-Podilskyi, Izmail, Kremenets. The scientific forum took place in the format of plenary and four sectional meetings.

Most of the participants from the city of Ivano-Frankivsk spoke online in the second part of the International Scientific Conference in the section “Local History and Historical Regionalism”. So, reports and announcements were made by: the head of the Department of History of Ukraine and methods of teaching history Ihor Raikivskyi and the student of the 1st year of the specialty 014 Secondary Education (History) OR “Master” Ivanna Paliychuk (“Olga Ilkiv – Roman Shukhevych’s liaison: touches to the political portrait”), leading specialist of the Educational and Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology and Archeology of the Carpathians Bohdan Paska (“The Case of the Teachers”: the massacre of the Carpathian teachers by the Soviet regime at the end of the 1950s”), graduate students of the same department Svitlana Galemchuk (“Formation of infrastructure in the Galician Hutsul Oblast at the end of the 19th – at the beginning of the 20th century”), Andrii Tsypuga (“Relationships of Opanas Zalivakha with the Kyiv Sixties in the first half of the 1960s”), Andrii Boyda (“Family origins of Vasyl Poryk (1888–1937)”), student of the 2nd year of the specialty 014 Secondary Education (History) OR “Master” Vladyslav Lutsyk (“Methods of the struggle of the Soviet agents against the nationalist underground in the Stanislav region in the second half of the 1940s – the first half of the 1950s”). At the section “Historiography, source studies and special historical disciplines” the student of the 4th year of the specialty 014 Secondary education (History) of the “Bachelor” OR Maria Perehinchuk spoked with the topic “Oppositional poetry in the self-published journal “Ukrainian Herald” (1970-1972).

During the entire day of the International Scientific Conference, sharp but fruitful discussions continued, the main arguments of which became the basis for the development of a joint decision of the scientific meeting, about the great importance of summarizing the sources and historiographic achievements of the history of Ukraine, local studies, historical regionalism, special historical disciplines, the history of Bukovyna and Northern Bessarabia.

Closing the meeting, its hosts noted the high scientific level of the participants’ reports, the polemical nature of their speeches, which contributes to the development of research on the history of Ukraine and the native land, the establishment of scientific communication and the exchange of one’s own scientific achievements. As a result of the conference, a collection of abstracts of reports of the 14th Bukovyna International Historical and Local History Conference was published (Chernivtsi, 2023. 226 p.).
